Home Guards Organization comprises of public men and women from all walks of life who come forward to receive training in various specialized subjects such as Weapon Training, Arm Drill, Fire Fighting, Rescue, Communication, First-Aid, etc. They can be called upon to assist the State and its citizens intimes of need.

• Home Guards function as Nucleus of Civil Defence Services and help in times of calamities.
  
• They assist in managing transport communication, water supply and other essential services in the event of breakdown in such services.
  
• Home Guards have been assisting Police in maintenance of Law and Order during fairs & festivals.
  
• Their services are also utilized for hospital duties, eye camps, shramdan, blood donation, diagnostic camps, Vanamahotsava, Social Forestry, etc.

	Home Guards Organization which is a purely voluntary comprises men and women who undertake to receive specialized training outside their normal hours of work, and who agree to place their services at the disposal of the State during times of necessity.
	A Home Guard is a member of the Public, who, in course of time, will be treated to carry out various functions for the well being of fellow citizens.
	The Commandant General who is the head of the organization co-ordinates the work of the various Home Guards Units. In the districts the Organisation is controlled by the Honorary Commandant who is appointed by the State Government.
	The function of the Home Guards as referred to above is to serve as an auxiliary force to the police and to extend assistance in maintaining internal security.
