Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission

'Human Rights' means rights relating to life, liberty equality and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the Constitution or embodied in the International Covenant & enforceable by Courts in India.

  • For considering complaints of violation of Human rights and as per clause 21 of the Protection of Human Right Act 1993 ,Government of Maharashtra decided to constitute Mahar ashtra State Human Rights Commission on 15.1.2000 and the same was constituted as per notificat ion dt. 24.2.2001. The Head Office of the commission is at Mumbai.

  • The present Office Address of the Commission is : Campus of the Administrative Staff College, Sir Hajarimal Somani Marg, Opposite Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai 400 001. Telephone nos. 022-22076408 / 022-22034233

  • Complaints which will be considered and powers of the Commission are -:
    a) enquire on a petition presented to it by a victim or any person on his be half into complaints of :-
    i) Violation of Human Rights or abetment therefore; or
    ii) negligence in the prevention of such violation, by a public servant.


    THE JURISDICTION OF THE COMMISSION IS AS FOLLOWS
    a) The Commission shall not enquire into any matter which is pending before any other commission duly constituted under any law for the time being in force.

    b) The Commission shall not enquire into any matter after the expiry of one year from the date on which the act instituting violation of human rights is alleged to have been committed.

Government of Maharashtra hereby specifies the officers of the rank of Sub_Inspectors of Police in the Police Department ( Traffic ) and the Inspectors of the Motor Vehicles of the Motor Vehicles Department to be the officers by whom any offence under the section specified in column ( 2) of the schedule hereto may either or after the institution of the prosecution , be compounded for the amount specified in column ( 5) of the said schedule

Amendments in Compounding of Fees

NOTIFICATION

MOTOR VEHICLE ACT 1988

No. MVA 0501/875/C.R. 58/TRA-2. In exercise of the powers conferred by section 200 of the Motor Vehicles Act , 1988 ( 59 of 1988) , and of all other powers enabling it in this behalf , the Government of Maharashtra hereby specifies the Officer of the rank of Sub-Inspectors of Police looking after the work of Traffic in the districts having no Traffic Branch to be the officers by whom any offence under the sections specified in column (2) of the schedule to the Government Notification , Home Department , No. MVT 0593/1708CR-29/TRA-2, dated the 24 th June 1996 may , either before or after the institution of the prosecution , be compounded for the amount specified in column (5) of the said schedule, and for that purpose amends the said notification as follows, namely :-

In the said notification, after the words, " Sub-Inspector of Police in the Police Department ( Traffic)" the words" Sub-Inspectors of Police looking after the work of Traffic in the districts having no Traffic Branch" shall be inserted.
