Maharashtra has rare
potential in Information Technology sector. With a view to make the State’s IT
industry globally competitive, and to exploit the potential of Information
Technology Industry in bringing about rapid economic development and mass
employment opportunities in the State; Govt. of Maharashtra announced Information
Technology Policy in 1998.
To achieve the
objective of the IT Policy; one of the basic strategy planks of the Policy is to
provide to the people a World-Class IT infrastructure.
Maharashtra
Industrial Development Corporation Limited (MIDC), State’s Infrastructure
Development Agency, has set up Knowledge Corridor- a series of infrastructure nodes for IT industry, between Mumbai and
Pune.
Various fiscal and
non-fiscal incentives are also offered under the State’s Industrial Policy 2001
to foster growth of IT industry. IT units in Public IT
Parks are
