Registration of Information Technology (IT) Parks

Maharashtra has rare potential in Information Technology sector. With a view to make the State’s IT industry globally competitive, and to exploit the potential of Information Technology Industry in bringing about rapid economic development and mass employment opportunities in the State; Govt. of Maharashtra announced Information Technology Policy in 1998.

To achieve the objective of the IT Policy; one of the basic strategy planks of the Policy is to provide to the people a World-Class IT infrastructure.

Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation Limited (MIDC), State’s Infrastructure Development Agency, has set up Knowledge Corridor- a series of infrastructure nodes for IT industry, between Mumbai and Pune.

Various fiscal and non-fiscal incentives are also offered under the State’s Industrial Policy 2001 to foster growth of IT industry. IT units in Public IT Parks are exempted from payment of stamp duty and registration fees upto 31st march, 2006. For encouraging private sector participation in infrastructure development efforts of the State, 50 % of the stamp duty and registration fees is waived for the IT units set up in other IT Parks in talukas / areas in the State in "A" and "B" categories.

In order to ensure quality standards of IT Parks in private sector, in the interest of IT units, registration of such IT Parks is necessary for the IT units, being set up therein, to seek the above waiver.

Development Commissioner (Industries) is empowered to grant Letter of intent / Registration to such Parks. A Committee under chairmanship of Development Commissioner (Industries) is set up to decide the quality standards (Eligibility Criteria) for the IT Parks, suggest measures for speedier development of IT infrastructure, particularly in talukas / areas in the State in "A" and "B" categories and consider applications of IT Parks.

Accordingly, the promoters of IT Parks have to apply in prescribed application form alongwith all the documents in evidence of the details mentioned in the application form. The applications of the promoters of IT Parks are placed before the Committee for decision.
