One
of the centres for the Sinhasth Kumbh Mela, Nashik is visited by pilgrims
round the year. Jyotirlinga of Trimbkeshwar is located near Nashik, which
is also the town in which revered Marathi literatteur V.V.Shirwadkar (Kusmagiraj),
and famous playwright Vasant Kanetkar lived. The Artillery school of Deolali,
the MiG Aircraft Factory at Ozar, the Five-star industrial estate at Sinnar,
historical monuments like Anakai-Tankai, Salher-Mulher or Hastagad, the
bumper onion crops year after year and internationally acclaimed grapes
are some of the distinguishing features of the district. Nashik is emerging
at a counter-magnate for Thane and Pune because of its salutary weather
and abundance of milk, vegetables and other produce.
