Thane
Thane district occupies a vital place in the industrial development of Maharashtra. Famous for powerlooms of Bhiwandi and the permanent hot springs of Vajreshwari, the district was chosen to establish the first Atomic Energy Project in the country. Besides an Ordnance factory at Ambernath, ten industrial estates of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) are located within the district. Thane town is also known as the city of lakes. It has won national acclaim for the best town planning and beautification. Warli folk art and tribal folk dance are the distinguishing features of the district
